LODGING - Where to stay in Oaxaca
We recommend the following hotels, guest-houses and youth hostels: HOTELS Hotel Maela The Hotel Maela is located next to Centro Cultural Santo Domingo. Rooms are pleasant, clean and comfortable. Services include cable TV, ceiling fans in each room, security boxes, a restaurant, and parking lot. Recommended rooms are those on the first floor #105+ as well as those located on the second floor #200+. This hotel has a suite with kitchen available for those staying longer. Rates: Hotel Las Mariposas Las Mariposas is located in an excellent location in the north east of the downtown area. It is a very pleasant hotel with a communal patio, wireless internet access, and breakfast included. We recommend the rooms in the back as they are quieter. Rates: Hotel Principal The Hotel Principal is centrally located walking distance from the Manuel Alvarez Bravo Museum. The hotel is in an older colonial building, its 21 rooms are medium size, clean, and are around an open courtyard. Coffee and cookies are served every morning. No credit cards are accepted. Reservations are made by phone. The hotel has a small library with a variety of English books which guests are welcomed to borrow. Rates: Hotel Las Golondrinas Hotel Las Golondrinas is a favorite among travelers. It is centrally located and has 18 small, but tastefully decorated rooms. Rooms are located around pleasant corridor gardens. Ask for rooms away from the door preferably in the back due to heavy traffic on Tinoco y Palacios. Rates: Hotel Las Azucenas Hotel las Azucenas is located in a restored late 19th Century building, located next to La Iglesia de la Soledad, a short walk from the Santo Domingo church and cultural center. The hotel has 10 beautifully decorated rooms as well as various areas to enjoy complementary tea and coffee service each morning. Hotel las Azucenas also has a café/bar. YOUTH HOSTELS Paulina Youth Hostel Definitely the best choice for a hostel, the Paulina is the most clean and modern youth hostel in Oaxaca. Rates: Posada Don Mario Hostal This hostal has a very pleasant atmosphere. It's clean, the rooms are big, there are a lot of bathrooms, at most only two rooms share one bathroom. Some of the rooms are up on the roof and have an interesting view of the city. It has internet access, more expensive than internet cafes, but conviently located in the hostal. It is located very close to La Luz Talleres. Rates: Luz de Luna Nuyoo This hostal has a very fun atmosphere. It's cheap and a great place to meet people. It has hammocks around the central patio. It has a room dedicated to rock climbing complete with handholds up the walls and padding on the floor. There are toilets in the dormitories which are clean. It has lockers. The showers are a little sketchy. Hostal Fernanda Two blocks from the Santo Domingo Cultural Center Hostal Fernanda is a great bargain. It is located in an old colonial house and includes 5 dormitories, (female, male, and mixed occupancy). The Hostal Fernanda guests have shared bathrooms and showers, shared lounge areas, 24-hour hot water, as well as a kitchen. The hostel also has internet service.
